How Does the Concept of “Just War” Apply to Palestine?

This essay analyses the ‘Principles of Just War’ with a view to understanding Israel’s isolation of Gaza.

The Tenets of Just War: To put it simply – Just War deals with how and why wars are fought. Do the means justify the end? What are the means and what is the end? Is there a possibility of collateral damage, aka civilian lives? Have all other means been exhausted?

The criteria or Tenets of Just War are: Just Cause, Right Intent, Net Benefit, Legitimate Authority, Last Resort, Proportionality of Means and Right Conduct.

Any military action that is sanctioned by the leaders of secular countries, is generally done after an exhaustive analysis of the Tenets of Just War and how they apply to that situation.

What is Palestine? There are two answers to this and will depend from person to person. To Muslims, it is the map on the left. To the rest of the world, it is what actually exists i.e., the map on the right.

For those not familiar with Israel’s history, the word “Palestine” is Roman – when they renamed the region from Judea – as punishment to the Jews. Fast forward through the centuries, the land went from Ottoman hands to the British, until the Brits drew arbitrary lines to carve out the states of Jordan and Israel.

A wholesome study of history and geo-politics is outside the scope of this essay, but we know from Islamic and Jewish scriptures that all the contested land was Jewish at one point, and through the ages (starting with the Romans) that region and the corresponding demographics have seen numerous iterations.

Is Hamas a True Representative of Palestine? The first question one is faced with is – does Hamas represent Palestine, and by extension the Umma and all of Islam? The answer is yes. The Islamic call to kill all Jews and take their land is plainly mentioned in the Quran. Since every word of the Quran is absolute and cannot be challenged, in part or as a whole, the hateful verses regarding the Jews must be seen as an order, and not a suggestion. Verses 26 and 27 of Sura Al-Ahzaab orders the killing of Jews and capturing their land, homes, and properties:

Verse 26: And He brought down those who supported them among the People of the Scripture from their fortresses and cast terror into their heart (so that) a party you killed, and you took captive a party

Verse 27: And He caused you to inherit their land and their homes and their properties and a land which you have not trodden. And ever is Allah, over all thing, competent

For reference, People of the Scripture in the above verses specifically means Jews. Quranic doctrine can’t be separated with Hamas, Palestine, the Umma, Muslims and the collective hatred towards Jews. A graphic representation would look like this:

Quran = Hamas = Palestine = Umma = Muslims

Indeed, any of the elements in this equation can’t be viewed in isolation. Each is a subset of the other and the whole itself is a subset of the parts. To remove any element from the rest will crumble the Islamic universe. This explains the support for Palestine from Islamic countries, but also Left leaning individuals in secular nations. The link between Palestinian leaders, terrorism and indoctrination of Palestinian children is explained at length by the Jewish Virtual Library and available here

The Islamic attack on October 7, 2023, was a clear statement of Hamas spearheading and waging a Holy War, a Jihad, a call ordered upon every Muslim by Mohammad. It was Hamas doing something that all believing Muslims wish for, but due to societal and constraints of criminality, are not able to act out on this mandate.

Verse 26 bears an eerie resemblance to the Jewish Genocide of 7 October – “He brought down…  from their fortresses and cast terror into their heart… a party you killed, and you took captive a party”. Is there any doubt that the Islamic terrorists were not following these commandments of their religion?

But ‘My Abdul’ is Different: But what about – “My neighbour Abdul, is the kindest soul and he says that Hamas doesn’t represent Islam”. The answer to this is Taquiya, or Sanctioned Lies. Muslims are ordered to hide and / or lie about their beliefs when there is a fear of reprisal. Surely, making less of the October  7 Genocide will raise eyebrows in non-Islamic countries. This explains Adbul’s public disassociation from Hamas. Again, aptly worded in Sura Aal-Imran of the Quran

Verse 3: Let not the believers take disbelieves as allies rather than believers. And whoever (of you) does that has nothing with Allah, except when taking precaution against them in prudence. And Allah warns you of Himself, and to Allah is the (final) destination.

‘Just War’ and the Case for Isolating Gaza: Israel and Jews in any part of the world are not safe from Islam. Israel must utilize every tool available to ensure the safety of their residents. Isolating Gaza is not “collective punishment”, but a necessary means to achieve a greater good. Unless Israel uses methods that will yield results, the perception that acts of terror have no consequence will hold true. The isolation of Gaza is one such tool that Israel must leverage to the fullest.

Human memory is short and maybe in a few months, the world will forget this Genocide. When this happens, world leaders and all of us must remember the Munich Massacre. On 5 September 1972, Islamic terrorists, killed two Israeli athletes and took nine hostages. In the ensuing gun battle with German law enforcement, all nine athletes were killed, along with one police officer and the five terrorists.

A few years later, on July 4, 1976, was the Palestinian hijacking of an Air France flight from Tel Aviv where 248 passengers were taken hostage. The flight was diverted to Uganda, where the terrorists had the patronage of Islamic dictator, Idi Amin. The Israeli Special Forces (SF) launched Operation Entebbe. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s brother, Yonatan Netanyahu (a Harvard graduate) was one of the Israeli SF commandoes who played a key role in that rescue operation.

Support for Israel Essential for Humanity’s Survival: Countries, organizations, and individuals must take a stand. To stand for Israel, or Palestine. Of course, one hopes that Israel gets all the support. But for those who align with Palestine, they show to the rest of us that they support terrorism. A neutral stance in this case means being okay with terrorism and the genocidal agenda of Islam.

World leaders must make every possible aid – military, medical and food available to Israel. Munitions for the Iron Dome must be made available free of charge. Following the Russian invasion, the West has supported Ukraine with billions of dollars worth of military equipment and aid, why is this any different?

Russia has been heavily sanctioned. Why are there no sanctions on Palestine? The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin. Why is there no arrest warrant for Mahmoud Abbas, the President of Palestine? Abbas’ disdain for the Jewish people is evident in that fact that he authored a book named “The Other Side: The Secret Relationship Between Nazism and Zionism”. In this, he alleges Zionist leaders were partners with the Nazis and equally responsible for the Holocaust.

But what about individuals? What can they do – a lot. Stop funding Islam and the funding of terrorism will automatically stop. Never buy Halal, because Halal Certification authorities gives enormous donations to Palestine, which gets siphoned to Hamas and other puppet organizations. Never patronize an Islamic owned business, because they donate to Islamic charities, which in turn fund the war against Israel. Write to your local Member of Parliament requesting them to introduce a bill for aid to Israel and sanctions on Palestine.
